Travel Tip: Civil War Experiences

This year we’re commemorating the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War.

That means even if you’re not into civil war reenactments, there are plenty of cool events happening around the country.

One of the first places to look is the National Park Service, which is hosting activities all year long. â?¨

For example, in Tennessee’s Stones River National Battlefield, you can join a ranger-led bicycle tour every Saturday to learn historic points of the Civil War.

Or you can even participate in a Civil War-themed trip. Tauck Tours has actually partnered with the filmmaker Ken Burns to create a fall travel package.

You’ll get an in-depth look at battle fields and other historic sites, and a private viewing at the National Archives.

Prefer to do it on your own? Just check out the site CivilWarTrails.org, which features points of interest throughout states like Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia.

And last, but not least, there’s a whole Web site dedicated to Civil War experiences taking place over the next four years, which you can find atCivilWar150.org.
