2. Laie Hawaii Temple, O’ahu, Hawaii

Joseph Smith, Jr., himself, consecrated the Laie Hawaii temple as the fifth Mormon temple and the first one built outside of Utah. Though the temple is reserved for Mormons going through key ordinances, travelers are welcome in the Visitor Center. The temple’s many lawns are also open daily (except Monday) for a picnic or simply for personal reflection. While in the area, you might also want to visit the Polynesian Cultural Center, which is operated by Brigham Young University – Hawaii. The center provides opportunities to experience authentic Polynesian village life with natives from six Pacific cultures and is open from noon until 6 pm daily.
