5. Strand Books, New York, New York
Opened in 1927, Strand Books is the lone survivor of the 48 bookstores that occupy Book Row in Manhattan. Occupying more than 55,000 square feet of space plus kiosks in Central Park it is still owned and run by the same family that founded it. My suggestion: Take the time to browse through the kiosks and outdoor bookshelves for some unexpected steals.
