Cathy from North Dartmouth asked: My husband recently retired, we’re in our late 50s, and I’m still working, but I have a week off towards middle March. We’re looking to go away somewhere warm, not somewhere far from Boston and we want ocean front. We want a reasonable deal. We’ve been to some islands like Aruba, St. Martin, Bermuda. What do you recommend?

Here are some ideas. First of all you’re not going to go to Bermuda in March because it’s still too cold; remember Bermuda is not in the Caribbean, it’s in the Atlantic. Here’s a new Caribbean idea that you actually can go to now and if you want to be the first on your block: You’re going to Cuba. It’s totally safe. It’s got great features. You’ll go as part of an educational group or a people to people group.

You’ve heard of BC and AD, well I have a new kind of a travel designation. It’s BKFC––before Kentucky Fried Chicken and McDonald’s. Raul Castro is building condominiums and a golf course, so you know Cuba is opening up radically and you want to go now, BKFC.

Now if you’re just looking to relax on the beach, as long as you’re not up against Easter vacation or spring break, you can just go down to Florida and be like everybody else. But if you want to be different and you don’t want to go to Cuba, go a little further south to Grenada and you’ll have the beach all to yourself. Grand Anse Beach is beautiful, plus you’ll have great food and a great crowd. And when you’re down there you can pretend you’re in Cuba and then you can call me.
