Travel Tip: Only-in-the-Summer, Natural Wonders

It’s one thing to hit the beach but what if you could experience a really cool natural occurrence at the same time?

Every August, Anse Chastanet Resort in St. Lucia is one of the few places in the world to witness coral spawning. This is really wild, where the coral release millions of spawn to create huge pink and white clouds.

You don’t have to sleep on the beach to see sea turtles nesting. The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort in Puerto Rico is a popular gathering spot and the hotel has its own marine biologist. So if you spot a Leatherback turtle nesting, just tell an employee and they’ll make sure the eggs are protected.

CasaMagna Resort and Spa in Puerto Vallarta gets about 30 percent of the sea turtles that nest in the area. You can actually sift through the sand for turtle eggs, and the hotel staff will make sure the new hatchlings get to sea safely.

If you haven’t seen bioluminescent waters, you’re missing out. The best time to see them in Florida is between July and October on a night kayak. And there’s Mosquito Bay on Vieques Island, which has one of the highest concentrations of bioluminescence in the world.
