Slideshow: Taiwan’s Regional Festivals

Taiwan keeps its folklore alive with a variety of exciting festivals, many of which take place during wintertime in honor of the Chinese New Year. Julie Alvin rounds up some of the must-see spectacles that take place each year in this island nation off the eastern coast of China.

The Beehive Rocket Festival takes place in Yanshui, a district of Tainan City in Southern Taiwan, two weeks after the start of Lunar New Year. The event is often equated with the running of the bulls in Pamplona, as both celebrations are both giddily anticipated and potentially dangerous.
