Travel Tip: Wine Lodges

There’s something special about being able to see the winemaking process up close. So what better way to experience it than by staying on the vineyard itself?

In Chile, Santiago Adventures can arrange a stay at Viña VIK, where the owners are using high-tech equipment and ancient techniques with the goal of producing Chile’s first 100-point wine.

You’ll stay in the rustic, 4-bedroom wine lodge and meet with the owners to learn about their ambitious project.

In Baja California, you can spend the night at Adobe Guadalupe, a working winery and hacienda. The hacienda which was designed by a Persian architect, is filled with works from local artisans.

And get this: the winery is also home to a stable of Azteca horses, a special breed created in Mexico. You can ride the horses through the vineyards and into neighboring wineries.

And right here in the States, Lynmar Estate Winery in Sonoma has a wine lodge appropriately called the Bliss House.

The three-bedroom lodge has views of the estate’s vineyards and organic farm, and you can ask about an in-depth tour of some of the oldest pinot noir vines in the Russian River Valley.
