The hyperactive President of France is fairly well-known worldwide and only became more so after marrying singer/model Carla Bruni in February 2008.
Adamantly pro-American in a country that’s not known for it, as well as a first-generation Frenchman of Hungarian descent in a country not known for being particularly welcoming to immigrants, Nicolas Sarkozy is something of an oddball. Plus, his energetic style is certainly at odds with the French stereotype of ennui-filled chain-smokers lounging in cafes.
