Prime Minister, Ukraine

Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko is probably the only world leader who is known for a distinctive hairstyle–blond braids wrapped atop her head. Not only is Tymoshenko credited with being a revolutionary leader (of Ukraine’s Orange Revolution of 2004), but she recently faced down the famously tough Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in high-stakes negotiations over natural gas.

And if that’s not enough, in one of her campaign posters, she’s shown riding a motorcycle as she asks for Ukrainians’ votes. Compare that to President Obama on a bicycle in khakis and a helmet to really put this in perspective.

Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck
King of Bhutan

Bhutan’s new KingThe Fifth King from the House of Wangchuck and the world’s youngest reigning monarch, 28-year-old Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck is from the obscure Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan. Among the kingdom’s few claims to fame are its Buddhist principles manifested in its emphasis on Gross National Happiness, as opposed to Gross Domestic Product, as the basis for the country’s development plan.

On a 2006 visit to Thailand, the then-Prince was dubbed “Prince Charming” and garnered the sort of breathless coverage usually reserved for movie stars and teen idols. Scandal erupted when a picture emerged on Thai internet forums of the Prince with a young woman. The picture is quite innocent (in it, the two are standing close to the camera and the Prince’s cheek rests atop the unnamed woman’s head) but it caused a police investigation and an official ban on further distribution of the photo.

But you can bet when the young “Dragon King” does find a girl, it will make the front page of more than a few newspapers around Thailand, Asia, and perhaps the world. Click here for Page 3.
