Travel Tip: Truly Unusual Hotels

Locations in this article:  Madrid, Spain Seoul, South Korea

Did you hear about the hotel in Madrid made entirely out of garbage?

Well, that one was a limited-time stunt, but there’s no shortage of unusual hotels around the world.

Any fan of the movie Tron: Legacy will appreciate the Tron-inspired suite at the IceHotel in Sweden.

But keep in mind, this room is only temporary. When the ice melts, so does the room.

Of course, you could stay a little closer to home and head to the famous ice hotel in Quebec. If the idea of literally sleeping on a bed of ice is too much, don’t worry: the hotel offers day tours and you can always visit the Ice Bar.

Das Park Hotel in Germany—the hotel made out of drain pipes—has been successful enough that they’re opening up a second location.

These rooms are made of two-story containers originally used for oil workers.

Just south of Seoul, Korea, is a property known as the Flush Hotel. Yes it’s actually shaped like a toilet.

But you have to be, well, flush with cash to afford a stay here. It costs about $50,000 a night, since its purpose is to raise money for sanitation projects.
