The Key West is bursting with a rich history of piracy. European navies would fight tooth and nail (literally) for colonial supremacy and riches. The Keys were a prime strategic hub for raiding opportunities among the islands of the Caribbean, as well as trading routes linking the New and Old worlds. Scuba dive in the tumultuous waters of Key West if you’re feeling adventurous and be sure to check out the Pirate Soul Museum. Former Philadelphia 76ers president Pat Croce opened the museum with an extensive collection of hundreds of pirate artifacts, including two real pirate flags and Blackbeard’s very own blunderbuss.
