Doggie closeupEight U.S. airlines have announced the Guaranteed On-Board Program (GOB), which guarantees members full reimbursement of the ticket price and the pet travel fee if they are denied boarding due to pet carrier restrictions.

American Airlines, Midwest Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Northwest Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Alaska Airlines partnered with pet-carrier manufacturer The Sherpa Pet Group to develop the program.

But will the new program really help travelers with pets?

Disembarking planeWhether it’s new airline startups or the radical changes in older airlines, PeterGreenberg.com has the air news you can use.

A new startup airline called Jet America has announced plans to offer flights for as low as $9 each way when it launches in July.

The low-cost Clearwater, Florida-based carrier will initially serve cities in the upper Midwest such as Toledo, Ohio; Lansing, Michigan; South Bend, Indiana; and Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, with expansion plans to include Charleston, West Virginia, and other smaller regional airports which it feels are underserved.

Suzy and doggieDear Peter,
I might have sent you a postcard from Arizona or New Mexico, but we breezed through them very quickly on our drive from California to Texas.

Possibly we were a little too breezy.

In today’s mail I got a little letter from the Arizona Highway Department inviting me to pay them $181.50.

Plane in the cloudsAirline news may leave you gasping, screaming, crying, or laughing out loud—but it’ll never bore you.

This week is a case in point.

Whether by coincidence or design, a perfect storm of wacky airline antics have transpired in the last few days, which moved us to bring you this roundup.

There were two from the “crazy” files this week: A drunken 28-year-old man, er, “relieved himself” on a Continental Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu last month.

If you’re on the road with your pet, it’s important to know that some states and cities have strict regulations regarding dogs. It pays to know the rules so that you and Fido don’t end up breaking the law.

Doggie closeupWhen you take a family vacation, should the four-legged members of your family stay behind? Not necessarily.

More than ever, travelers are bringing their furry “families” - dogs and cats - on vacation with them.

Fourteen percent of adults (29.1 million) brought pets on trips of 50 miles or more in the past three years.

Most people who travel with pets bring their dogs (78 percent of the total), but cats and even smaller creatures have made trips with their owners.
