Travel Tip: Fall Travel Savings

Locations in this article:  Nassau, Bahamas

It’s official, fall is here. And this is the time of year when smart travelers take advantage of all the shoulder-season deals that can translate into big savings.

Colorado’s mountain resorts are a perfect example of places that discount heavily during that in-between season—when summer is over but ski conditions haven’t set in.

For example, the Sebastian Vail hotel drops its rates from a whopping $689 in the high season to as low as $289.  Even local restaurants lower prices as a way to encourage business in the slow season. Best of all, these types of deals usually run until Thanksgiving.

The Caribbean is another place with plenty of fall deals. It’s still hurricane season, so plan accordingly. The Cayman Islands have discounts into early November, including hotels, restaurants and dive shops. Several hotels on Nassau Paradise Island will discount as much as $300 through the end of February.

And while airline deals tend to be short and not very well publicized, keep your eyes open. They have fall sales to the Caribbean, Europe and domestically.

Many of these sales tend to end on Thursdays, so pay attention and sign up for those fare alerts.
