Travel Tip: New Photography Apps

These days, it seems like there really is an app for everything. But here’s one idea that really makes sense for travelers: an app that shows you how to take a photograph.

Sure, there are plenty of photography books out there. The cool thing about a mobile application, however, is that they’re both portable and visual…and they’re affordable, so you can load up with all sorts of tips.

Photographer Rick Sammon’s travel apps, for example, give step-by-step instructions on everything from framing and lighting to taking aerial, underwater and action shots. It even tells you how to take a great photo with a mobile phone, which anyone can pull off.

Photographer Lee Foster has apps dedicated to taking photos in specific cities like Washington, DC and San Francisco, so you can learn techniques on how to capture iconic sites like a pro.

If you prefer to look at images rather than take them, well, there’s an app for that too. Beautiful Planet is one of the top apps for the iPad and iPhone, showcasing more than 600 photos from around the world. Consider it easy reading for the armchair travel photographer.
