Video Trend Report: River Cruising

Viking River Cruises christened six new ships in 2012, and there are some notable new trends to watch out for.

Sustainability: Each of the six new Viking longships has green features like solar panels, energy-efficient hybrid engines, and an organic herb garden onboard.

Dining: Now it’s all about options, whether you want a formal evening or a more casual meal, shops offer multiple dining rooms with a great view.

Watch Peter’s trend report to see if river cruising is the right choice for you.

I’ve been wanting to take a river cruise for so long…but, they tend to be too expensive. Are there ever deals to be found-ex: during shoulder seasons?

You betcha!  For example, if enter ”AMA WATERWAYS” in the SEARCH box at the top of this page, you can find discounts up to 50% on luxury river cruises on all the major European rivers, and in Africa and Southeast Asia.  Bon voyage!

We have taken two Viking river cruises:  our first and our last. We were taken on shopping expeditions in Russia where we assume the cruise line got a cut of whatever was purchased. That stop meant that we missed seeing Lenin’s Tomb as it was already closed by the time we finally arrived. That plus several other scheduling glitches convinced us that they were not the line for us.

    Dear Jgreerdavis,

Please accept our apologies for your disappointment at missing
Lenin’s Tomb, as well as the other scheduling concerns you mention. As for the
time spent shopping, you can rest assured that Viking did not receive a
financial gain from this excursion. We strive to achieve a balance of all guest
needs and wants, which they tell us often includes bringing home authentic
    souvenirs to remember their journey.

We hope you will contact us directly at TellUs@vikingrivercruises.com
so that we may discuss your concerns in further detail. We understand that we
may not succeed in changing your mind about Viking River Cruises being the
right line for you, but hearing guest feedback, such as yours, always helps us
to continually refine and improve our product — so you would be helping both us
and our future guests — and for that we would be very grateful.

    Kindly,

    Viking River Cruises
