Top Five Places to Propose in 2012

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and it’s the time of year for romance and maybe even something more. If you’re looking to pop the question, destination wedding expert Kimberly Richmond knows just the spot.

You’ve found the one, you have the ring.  But where to go to ask that life-changing question? Every couple has their own, unique love story and there are countless settings that conjure up romance. The key to finding that perfect spot is imagination and creating a one-of-a-kind experience.

I’ve rounded up the top destinations to propose in 2012…places you might not necessarily have thought of.

Puerto Vallarta

The Pacific Coastline of Mexico is tailor-made for memorable outdoor proposals. With spectacular sunsets and 25 miles of golden beaches, it offers many vantage points from which to observe Mother Nature at her best.

Nowhere is this more evident than in Puerto Vallarta. Once a tranquil fishing village, in the last 50 years it has transformed into a romantic hot spot. A diverse collection of hotels, shops, bars and restaurants dot the cobblestone streets of PV’s “romantic area”- set in the heart of Old Vallarta.

One magical place is Le Kliff. Perched on a cliff, overlooking the ocean, this popular restaurant offers a romance package for couples including a five-course meal, bottle of wine, exclusive use of the restaurant’s outdoor terrace and a private musical trio.

For a real treat, stay 45 minutes up the coast at the Four Seasons Punta Mita. Casita-style accommodations with beachfront or ocean views, make this a romantic and secluded spot.

Runaway Bride Tip: Hotels always like to upsell the romantic package, but try to price out all the extras. Sometimes it’s cheaper to buy your own bottle of wine.

Our daughter got married last year in a Castle in Certaldo, Itlay and it was a really fun wedding.  But their engagement was in 2010 on Valentines Day on top of the Eiffel Tower.  He took her there for a vacation and proposed that morning.  So the proposal was great, accepted and I got to walk my daughter down the main street of a 1000 year old Italian town
in her long wedding dress while the townsfolk stopped and clapped for her. Her younger sister got proposed to on one of the empty beaches on Eleuthera in the Bahamas on a family trip.  No one on the beach but her and her beau.  Pretty cool and then they got married in Key West.

Wow such magical proposals and fabulous destination weddings! It definitely doesn’t get much more romantic than getting married in an old castle- amazing! Both sound like fairytale weddings (and proposals!) :-)

Carribean would be ideal!! The truth is that there are many great destinations for that purpose!
