Kate Minus Eight, Plus Cruise

Royal Caribbean and Luxury Cruises & Tours is offering a Kate Gosselin-themed cruise setting sail in August. For about $1,900 to $5,500, 6,000 passengers will be stuck on a boat with Kate Gosselin for six days and seven nights. Guests will be treated to a cocktail party, private barbeque, family games, crafting, and book signings with Kate, who just might share her best-kept secrets on mothering and coupon blogging in between stops in Haiti, Jamaica and Mexico.

Child Lego Labor

A new hotel at Legoland Windsor, UK, may be toeing the line on child labor laws. When the hotel opens later this year, it will boast a team of 8-to-12-year-old concierges under the pretense of “youth outreach.” The 12 lucky boys and girls must apply online, and the “winners” will be announced in February, just in time for Spring Break training! If it all sounds like a page out of Dickens, rest assured the underage workers are being compensated. Each concierge receives a free weekend with their family, including a stay in a Lego-themed room, two days in the park and plenty of Lego to play with. What’s that break down to per hour?

Spongebob to the Rescue

Spongebob Squarepants may live in a pineapple under the sea, but he manage to save a life of a man trapped at sea this week. Eric Bettanin, 29, was jet skiing off the coast of the Australian state of Victoria when he broke down and was swept out to sea where he spent the night. He was found the next morning with yellow Spongebob-print board shorts on his head, in keeping with most mother’s warnings that heat escapes from the head. More than 40 rescue personnel spent the night looking for him. He was finally picked up by the Coast Guard.

Tribal Zoos

Video proof of “human zoos” in the Adaman Islands surfaced in India last week, inciting outrage amongst media outlets. The video shows women of the endangered Jarawa tribe dancing naked as tourists tossed biscuits and bananas at them. Indian law prohibits close contact, photographing, or filming of the indigenous tribe of barely 400 people, and the video constitutes a direct violation of Indian law on the part of the videographer. Indian Tribal Affairs Minister V. Kishore Chandra Deo responded to the clips, calling them “disgusting.”

Stun Gun Show Down

A sheriff’s deputy took down a man with three shocks from a stun gun at Sacramento International Airport. After being told he’d have to go though security screening again if he were to return to the airport’s secure area to look for lost belongings, Edwin Barton, 26, got agitated, took his bag and ran. The sheriff’s deputy chased him down and tased him once, but Barton resisted so he was stunned twice more. Barton, who suffers from epilepsy and colitis, is now facing two misdemeanor charges for breaching security and resisting arrest. He is now released after being booked at the Sacramento County Jail.
