There is lots of talk about the cheapest day to buy airline tickets or the best time to book a flight, but for another way to find airline value: Consider flying under the radar. Smaller airlines like Allegiant Air or Vision Airlines are often unable to complete in volume, but they have been able to provide more affordable service to under-served airports.
For example, if you are flying from Orlando, Florida to the Allentown, Pennsylvania area, you will likely spend over $600 on a ticket from Delta or you can fly non-stop and spend around $300 when you fly Allegiant Air. Or consider Porter Airlines, a Canadian airline that also flies to a few select U.S. destinations. If you’re flying from New York to Toronto, you might spend $600 or more with American Airlines, but you only spend about $248 when you fly Porter.
