Slash exhibit at the Museum of Arts & DesignSure, you’re probably going to hit a museum when visiting a new city.

But when the weather is warm, try tacking on a different sort of experience by exploring outdoor works of art as well.

You might be surprised by the quality and variety of outdoor art installations…

Every weekend through November, the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, Massachusetts offers free guided tours of its sculpture garden with regular museum admission.

If you want to go off the beaten path in Manhattan, the Cloisters Museum is a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art located in Fort Tryton Park.

Once you pay for admission to the MET, you get free access to the Cloisters. And once you’re in, they offer free guided tours of the collection and gardens.

The Huntington Library in Los Angeles isn’t just a library and art museum. Once you pay for entrance, you can take advantage of a free tour of its extensive gardens.

And we’re talking more than 14,000 types of plants throughout the grounds.

Bottom line: Paying for museum admission doesn’t necessarily mean you have to spend the day indoors.

Sometimes there are great works of art to be found outside as well.
