Batter- Fantasy Baseball CampIt’s the bottom of the ninth, and Roy Berger has one more game to play at McKechnie Field. After an intense, week-long vacation from real life, is he ready for the Major Leagues, or is it time to leave the fantasy behind and return to the grind?

Saturday morning didn’t start too well for us, but we were better off than the camper who showed up at breakfast with his arm in a sling.

On Friday he dislocated his shoulder sliding into third base, got up, put the shoulder back in place, and proceeded to get into a collision at the plate trying to score. The shoulder came out for the second and (hopefully) last time.

Fantasy Baseball CampWith the week coming to an end and the cameras rolling, Roy Berger steps up to the plate for his first on-camera at-bat in part six of his Fantasy Baseball Camp chronicles.

Today was doubleheader day again with games scheduled at 10:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.

The previous afternoon of rest was appreciated by all, but it was time to get back to fantasy business again—the two last games would decide playoff positions. The eight teams are divided into two divisions with the top two in each division advancing to Friday’s playoff/championship game rounds. The top team in Division A meets the second team in Division B with the other game the reverse order.

Before we played our first game this morning, we discovered that we had won our division.

Miami Florida - Super Bowl host cityThe stage is set for the Indianapolis Colts to square off against the New Orleans Saints in Super Bowl XLIV in Miami next Sunday, February 7.

But if you’re among the thousands of fans scrambling to find a hotel room in Miami, it’s time for a 2-minute drill, a no-huddle, hurry-up offense.

So stay calm, take a quick timeout and go over our playbook on how to score a reasonable room just in time for the big game.

Of course, no one wants to get caught outside in a winter storm, but what if you could get a safe, dry front-row seat to watch a storm in action?

Pelican in Everglades National ParkFlorida’s Everglades National Park has been damaged by urban pollution over several decades. In light of two promising environmental restoration projects, Lynn Langway investigates active adventures and scenic beauty in an underappreciated American national park.

It’s a sparkling Sunday morning in the Florida Everglades, and 16 alligators have congregated for some serious sun worship at the base of the Shark Valley observation tower.

Baseball fantasy campIt’s day five of Fantasy Baseball Camp, and Roy Berger is starting to feel the pain. But it’s all worthwhile when he gets to play a real game in a Major League-caliber stadium.

Today was a relief. Only one game was scheduled for all teams.

After two straight days of baseball and, in my case, using muscles I haven’t used in more than 30 years (and, frankly, some I didn’t know I still had), we all were thrilled to have the afternoon off.
