Save Time, Money, and Travel Better with Peter's Daily Travel Tips

You’ve heard of biking and hiking trails, but how about art trails? These self-guided tours get you up-close-and-personal with local artists.

You might be surprised to know that there are more than 50 art studios throughout Ithaca, New York and surrounding areas.

You can download a driving map of out-of-the-way studios that are open to the public, showcasing works from painters, jewelers, woodcarvers and more.

Also on the East Coast is the Maine Art Museum Tour, which includes seven stops to view more than 53,000 works relating to the state of Maine.

In Texas Hill Country on the second Saturday of each month, you can check out 12 galleries in just 10 miles with the Art in the Hills trail.

And, in Sonoma County, something called ARTrails is an organized event that takes place mid-October.

You get to choose among 138 local galleries, and make sure stop by to meet and greet the artists and watch hands-on demonstrations.

For something a bit less strenuous, try Art Walks.
