Art Walks

Cultural Immersion, Culture on June 9, 2008 12:08 pm

The next time you’re visiting a small town, you can explore its local art scene with something called an Art Walk.

An art walk is usually a free and public event for residents and visitors spend an evening walking through town to experience the local art galleries.

In Laguna Beach, California, an art walk takes place on the first Thursday of every month, where you can hop on a free shuttle to visit up to 40 local galleries.

In East Hampton, New York, an art walk takes place the second Saturday of each month, where you’ll find more than a dozen venues of visual, music, performance art, and cocktail receptions.

The Kansas City 39th Street Art Walk is held the third Friday of every month, and features more unusual exhibitions like machine art, textile art and live performances such as belly dancing.

Sacramento, California also celebrates the 2nd Saturday of each month with an art walk in Midtown. The restaurants often have special meals, galleries are open, churches sponsor speakers, book stores have readings, and the whole neighborhood has a festive feel.
