In some places, high season is high season for a good reason: it’s widely considered the best time to visit certain destinations. After all, not many people want to winter in Stockholm.

But the high season does have its disadvantages.

Chief among them are cost, crowds and a lost sense of place. After all, even Venice can lose some charm when the streets are filled with fannypacks.

But in some places, the high season is little more than a myth– and an expensive one at that. Here’s why the low season is when you really want to visit the Caribbean.
