Save Time, Money, and Travel Better with Peter's Daily Travel Tips

If you thought your town was dead, why not check out a real American ghost town? These are historic locations where it seems like time truly is standing still.

Ghost towns are a great way to see the old West, with buildings and facilities left just as when they were abandoned.

In Bodie, California, more than 200 structures are still standing in what state officials called “arrested decay.”

The stores are still stocked with goods, and the old cemetery is marked by 80 headstones from former residents.

Fayette Historic Town Site in Garden, Michigan was once an iron-smelting town and now serves as a well-preserved museum village.

You can catch unbeatable sunsets over the harbor, where the 20 historic buildings still stand.

If you’re interested in a “livelier” ghost town, St. Elmo, Colorado has four-wheel-drive trails and areas where visitors can dig up quartz and aquamarine.
