AMERICAN GETS OUT OF PAYING FINES - Forbes
Earlier this year, the Transportation Department discovered dozens of chronically delayed flights, and it said if carriers did not improve in the third quarter, they would pay hefty fines—up to $25,000 per violation. But now the DOT says no fines are necessary. Why? American changed its flight times by less than an hour–and voila! The government says these are completely new flights … that were also chronically late.

AMERICAN’S UNION PROPOSAL WOULD DESTROY NETWORK OF PARTNERSDallas Morning News

The American Airlines pilots’ union introduced a new proposition that calls for only its members to be allowed to fly—domestically or internationally. This idea, however, would limit AA’s ability to operate other sister company flights, such as American Eagle and all of its other partners. “One of American’s key strengths is our network,” American spokeswoman Tami McLallen said. “On its face, the APA proposal appears to threaten or weaken that network. A weaker network would likely result in negative consequences for all our constituencies, including our shareholders, customers and employees.”

SLOT MACHINES TARGETING YOUNGER GENERATIONSThe New York Times
Manufacturers are now targeting their slot machines toward the younger generations with the addition of new video-game-like elements. “Younger players come to town to party,” said George Maloof Jr., president of the Palms Casino Resort, a popular Las Vegas hangout for people under 40. “They drink, they go to nightclubs, they go to the after-hours clubs, they check out the pool for the scene there. Gambling in general is not high on their agenda.”
