Travel Tip: How You Can Visit Pablo Escobar’s Former Hideout

Locations in this article:  London, England

There was a time, not so long ago, that some older inns and hotels proudly proclaimed that George Washington slept there.

The presumption was that if you slept there, you got to experience, or at least share, in some of that history.

Well, times have changed.

Today, a number of destinations all around the world are promising a different kind of history.

In Italy, you can now spend the night in Mussolini’s former summer villa.

In Romania, the former palace once run by Dictator Ceausescu is now an elegant hotel. In Germany, there’s the hotel in Eagles Nest, where Hitler vacationed.

Now you can visit the place where notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar hung out—or hid out—in Medellín, Colombia.

Welcome to Manuela Hacienda, Escobar’s lakeside villa.

You can take a tour of the villa, complete with cars riddled with bullet holes, and the table where Escobar had his last meal.
