Save Time, Money, and Travel Better with Peter's Daily Travel Tips

Local characters, couture clothes, live music performances? You can find all these things, and more-plus really get to know your destination-at the local flea market.

Local flea markets are a great way to feel the flavor of a town, and in Los Angeles you don’t need to be on Rodeo Drive to shop amongst the stars. The Rose Bowl Flea Market’s 2,200 vendors cater to celebrities and commoners monthly. Whether you shop or just browse, this 38-year-old flea market offers plenty of interesting sights.

Chicago’s Maxwell Street Weekly Market is famous for its wide selection, where you can purchase merchandise ranging from art to car parts. There are also impromptu jazz and Latin musical performances.

In muggy Florida, you can find air-conditioned salvation at the 100 indoor booths located at Daytona’s Flea Market. Almost 1,000 additional outdoor booths provide almost endless shopping Friday through Sunday at this market that stays open year-round.
