Save Time, Money, and Travel Better with Peter's Daily Travel Tips

Taking a bicycle can be a great way to get to know a new city. But cycling unfamiliar terrain can be intimidating.

Here are some resources that can help.

Finding good bike paths in an unfamiliar city can be a challenge, but there are a few websites that might be able to help.

Bikely.com is a forum for cyclists to share their favorite routes from over 40 countries around the world. The majority of the routes are in the US and Canada.

Bikers plot their routes on maps and some routes include comments from the rider, telling you what to look out for—or really enjoy—on each path.

At RouteSlip.com, bikers get not only a map, but also a plotted graph of the changes in elevation along the route.

This should help you find out how strenuous a route will probably be, even if you don’t know the area.
