Save Time, Money, and Travel Better with Peter's Daily Travel Tips

Being kind to the earth when you travel may be easier than you think. Here are some simple tips to make your travels more eco-friendly, without much effort. If at all possible, take a non-stop flight. Non-stops are not only more efficient for you, but more efficient for the earth because the most energy and fuel are used up in flights during takeoffs and landings. Try taking the shuttle instead of a taxi when you’re going to the airport. This type of “carpooling” cuts down on pollution, and can save you money.

And turn off the lights in your hotel room when going out — you’d do it at home, right? Another energy-saving idea is to unplug the appliances in your home before going on a long vacation. Unplugging appliances — especially ones with digital or LCD displays like microwaves, electric clocks, and TVs — when you’re gone really can help. Just because something’s not turned on, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t burning energy.
