Save Time, Money, and Travel Better with Peter's Daily Travel Tips

If you’ve been thinking about taking a trip to Asia, in particular China or India, you may be interested to learn that the number of affordable budget hotels is surging.

China’s home-grown Home Inn as well as Western chains Best Western and Super 8 are growing rapidly in China, while India’s Hometel chain is preparing for a big expansion.

So what do budget hotels like Home Inn and Hometel offer?

You’ll get the basics, like air conditioning, hot water, a TV, phone, mini-fridge, and Wifi, but no frills like swimming pools and fancy lobbies.

And the cost?

At Indian Hometels, it’s just $35 to $55 per night, while China’s Home Inn charges anywhere from just $20 per night to about $50 per night, depending on the location.

One caveat: managers at budget hotels are not known for their English skills, especially in China, so be prepared.
