Save Time, Money, and Travel Better with Peter's Daily Travel Tips

How would you like to the web from that rental car? It used to be that the only option you had for a rental car was automatic or manual. The latest is wireless Internet access. Basically, Avis and Hertz will give you a car that generates its own Wifi hotspot when you plug their device into the cigarette lighter. So you can surf the web while you drive around (though we recommend that the passenger actually does the surfing and the driver does the driving).

The Avis device also comes with an extra plug that will work anywhere, giving you a hotspot almost anywhere you can find an electric outlet. Avis charges $9.95 per day for its service, while Hertz’s is just $4.95. And since $9.95 seems to be the going rate for most airports and other travel businesses that charge for daily Internet access, opting for a wired car might not be a bad idea.
