Dear Peter,
I loved your article on how to avoid lost luggage, especially the part about how airlines are losing or damaging more bags than ever.
I have to share an experience I had a little over a year ago on this subject.
I had checked my suit bag (you know, the kind that folds over) on a business flight and boarded the plane.
Anyway, as I was sitting with my co-worker in the plane, we saw a large hairy baggage handler hurl a bag 20 feet in the air and miss the belt, where it landed on the tarmac only to explode and start blowing clothes out everywhere.
My buddy said, “Wow, did you see that? Someone’s going to be really pissed when they see their bag.”
At that time I recognized a pair of my boxers flying by and realized it was my bag!
I later retrieved my bag and oil stained clothes in a crate wrapped up with duct tape.
No apology, no explanation and no reimbursement.
Hey, thanks Delta! Never flew with them again.
Best,
Jeffrey E.
