Book your hotel room through this innovative non-profit website and 5% of your hotel costs are donated directly to the charity of your choice.
Even better, you might even save money.
Conceived in 2005 by a tech-savvy group of young Dutch people, Charity Hotels.com wants to help you “donate while you sleep.”
The site is very similar to a standard hotel site, allowing you to search by city and date, or a specific hotel name.
Since the 5% donation is paid for by the hotels, it’s not necessarily more expensive to book through the site.
For some cities, there are a wide variety of hotels available, with Amsterdam, London, New York, and Las Vegas especially prominent.
In London, for example, you can choose from the relatively inexpensive Hotel 87 to a mid-range Best Western to upscale haunts like the the Grand at Trafalgar Square and the Cumberland.
And with CharityHotels.com, you’ve got a wide variety of charities to choose from, including the Red Cross, Unicef, Oxfam, Amnesty International, the World Wildlife Fund, and Doctors Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres).
